The year is 1930. E. A. Spencer is the curator of the famous Spreckels Organ in Balboa Park and is chosen to build a 3 Manual, 13 Rank organ for Grace Lutheran Church, whose new building is under construction on Park Boulevard. The organ is designed to accompany the rich, historic liturgy of the church for generations, and also be a treasure to the musical community of San Diego. As the congregation grew, the organ was enlarged, now standing at 61 Ranks and is the 5th largest pipe organ in San Diego County. This instrument still accompanies the church’s liturgy each week, but over the years has fallen into disrepair with stop-gap measures losing their effectiveness. A 3-year plan to restore our organ to its original splendor has begun. You can be part of the magnificent history of this church and organ by helping us achieve this goal.
