GLORIA Organ Restoration

Our historic E.A. Spencer pipe organ.

Support the Legacy of Liturgical Music

in San Diego

In 1930, Grace Lutheran's new building was under construction. E.A. Spencer, curator of the famous Spreckels Organ in Balboa Park, was chosen to build a 3 Manual, 13 Rank organ. As our congregation grew, the organ was enlarged to its current 61 Ranks. It is the fifth largest organ in the county and a treasure to our city's musical community.

This historic pipe organ in San Diego accompanies Grace Lutheran's liturgy each week, but over the years it had fallen into disrepair. By 2020, the stop-gap measures that had kept it going were failing. We launched a phased plan to restore our organ to its original splendor.

Achieving Our Goal with Your Help

With the generous donations of money, time and talent, Phase I was completed in time for Christmas 2021. The official dedication of the new console and control system was celebrated in February 2022. The improvements move us forward to an instrument equally suited to accompany the human voice at worship and the structuring of magnificent climaxes in the great tradition of Lutheran church music.
